Duel Commander is a competitive multiplayer format for the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. Unlike traditional Commander (also known as Elder Dragon Highlander or just Commander), which typically involves multiplayer games with multiple players, Duel Commander is specifically designed for one-on-one matches.
In Duel Commander, each player builds a deck containing 100 singleton cards (meaning no duplicates except for basic lands), led by a legendary creature or planeswalker designated as the deck's commander. Players start with 20 life points, and the game proceeds similarly to regular Magic: The Gathering, with the goal of reducing the opponent's life total to zero.
The Duel Commander format has its own banned list and rules tailored for a more competitive, fast-paced environment compared to multiplayer Commander. This format often attracts players who prefer a more focused and strategic gameplay experience.
